Bell & Ross BR 01-92 Gold Ingot

In the same spirit as the creation of the infamous Phantom Instrument where the entire watch was black, the Gold Ingot takes one color to the extreme. Every part of the 46mm watch-case and dial are crafted out of solid 18 karat rose gold and impeccably finished with satin and glossy finishes, and a hobnail pattern for the dial. The black, semi-glossy alligator strap finishes off the intense elegance of the Gold Ingot.

Bell & Ross BR01 Tourbillon Airborne Watch

Bell & Ross presents its new timekeeping creation based on its two famous models - the BR01 Airborne watch and BR01 Tourbillon. The new timepiece is named the Bell & Ross BR01 Tourbillon Airborne. It is a perfect timekeeping companion for those who dare to be different and appreciate originally designed items. The watch demonstrates a deathly looking dial shaped as a skull. Just in time for Halloween.

The new Bell & Ross watch also stands out due to its regulator-style time display for hours, minutes, seconds - all indicated by a separate hand on a separate display. The hand in the center looks like a sword. The tourbillon cage actually serves as the seconds hand. The timepiece also offers a power reserve display, and a torque indicator to keep you away from overwinding the Swiss manual-wind movement.

The Bell & Ross BR01 Tourbillon Airborne watch is all performed in black. Its case is rendered in titanium and measures 46mm in diameter. Its surface is provided with diamond like carbon (DLC) coating. It guarantees 100-meter water-resistance. Sapphire crystals protect its eye-catching dial and the case-back displaying the movement plate.

One more distinctive touch – the Bell & Ross Tourbillon Airborne watch is presented on a black stingray strap.

The watch will be limited to just 20 pieces at the amazing price of 150,000 US dollars.

Bell & Ross New Watches - Vintage Collection

Bell & Ross has designed the VINTAGE COLLECTION as an homage to the aviators of the 1940’s, who were the first professionals to use the wristwatch as a tool on their missions. The brightly polished, luxurious contours of the new VINTAGE OFFICER watches give these professional instruments an elegant appearance. Their impeccable finish is a reminder that attention is paid to every detail when producing exceptional watches.

A VINTAGE watch

The watches in the Bell & Ross VINTAGE COLLECTION share the same characteristics, particularly their inspiration, shape and movement:

• The traditional shape of the round case is reminiscent of period wristwatches while its ergonomic design is compatible with the comfort expected by modern wearers.

• The domed crystal recalls the crystals of the 1940’s. Unlike the original, however, it is produced using extremely strong sapphire as a result of improved production techniques.

• The refined dial graphics optimize readability, taking their inspiration from cockpit instruments.

• A choice of two quality Swiss movements: an hours, minutes and seconds version (BR 123) and a chronograph version (BR 126).

The OFFICER line, elegant finishes

The new VINTAGE OFFICER watches are functional models whose elegance is derived as much from its simple shape as from its quality finish and materials.

• The polished steel case gives this sophisticated watch a stylish sheen, accentuating its shape with panache.

• Two dials with traditional finishes:

SILVER: faithful to period watches, the silver sunburst dial subtly produces opalescent reflections. The watch’s hands, numerals and index are a singularly elegant tone-on-tone steel.

BLACK: for perfect readability, the steel hands and index on this model contrast with the black dial, reflecting the principles of readability found in professional instrument panel components. This elegantly subdued watch with its refined sunburst dial is timelessly chic.

The final touch – the watch’s alligator strap serves to enhance the cachet of this top-of-the-line model.
Refined style

A new creation in the VINTAGE COLLECTION, the VINTAGE OFFICER watches are distinguished by their unpretentious luxury. True to their vintage spirit, they can nonetheless be clearly identified as Bell & Ross watches.

Jonathan Ellery Makes Handmade Bell & Ross Watch For Wallpaper Magazine

Prestigious design magazine Wallpaper chose Bell & Ross to realize a unique watch for their HandMade issue.

Hand Made Watch by Jonathan Ellery and Bell & Ross

The choice has been made thanks to the creativity of the brand and the iconic status of Bell & Ross watches. Handpicked to work together, Bell&Ross are delighted to have collaborated with Jonathan Ellery in creating a one off unique watch. The artwork for this timepiece is based on Bell & Ross BR01-92 Radar watch, in which three concentric circles rotate to indicate hours, minutes and seconds. This take is a conceptual piece, and telling the time by it requires mastering its rotational rhythms; the explosive motif comes together only twice in 24 hours as the circles rotate.

Wallpaper* Handmade – August 2010

For its most ambitious issue to date, Wallpaper* has brought together and briefed some of the world’s leading designers, craftsmen and manufacturers to produce unique furniture, fittings, foodstuffs, fashion and more. The August Handmade issue is dedicated to this astonishing collection of one-off designs and delicacies, chronicling their production and presentation at this year’s Salone del Mobile.

Jonathan Ellery

Ellery is founder of Browns, a graphic design studio with clients such as Channel 4 and Dries Van Noten.

Bell & Ross Professional Watches

Although electronic military watches are readily available - featuring everything from GPS navigation to a barometer and altitude alarm, there is still an extremely healthy market for high-quality, mechanical pieces that have combat credentials.

In 1992, a team of designers & specialists of aircraft and space controls joined with a set project: to create watches perfectly suited to professional use. Their will: to be part of the great Swiss watchmaking tradition while meeting the demands of men facing extreme situations. Nowadays astronauts, pilots, divers and bomb disposal experts use Bell & Ross watches as tools used for their missions.

To ensure that a watch perfectly meets the expectations of its users, Bell & Ross gathers men with complementary know-how. Designed for professionals who demand optimal reliability, Bell & Ross watches meet four basic principles: readability, peformance, precision & water-resistance. This technical exactness is expressed through pure lines and timeless elegance.

Bell & Ross' current watch collection features over 100 watches, offering professionals a grand choice. Bell & Ross Limited Edition BR03-92 Phantom Infiniti Watch

Infiniti, the luxury automotive brand from Japan, has announced the arrival of the Limited Edition BR03-92 Instrument Phantom Infiniti wristwatch, engineered by the Swiss specialist watchmaker Bell & Ross.

Just 100 examples are being produced, and will be offered only through Infiniti Centres in Europe.

The launch of the exclusive timepiece, an elegant accessory for the discerning Infiniti customer and the watch collector, marks the collaboration of two brands which are synonymous across the globe with exceptional performance, craftsmanship, precision, and modern luxury.

The special edition BR03-92 Phantom Instrument has been designed by Bell & Ross to commemorate the recently revealed Infiniti FX Limited Edition performance crossover, restricted, just like the watches, to only 100 individually-numbered examples worldwide. However, such has been the extensive demand prior to the release of the watch, that only a handful remain.

The parallels from the fusion of Infiniti and Bell & Ross are clearly evident in the appearance of the piece. The black carbon powder finish, which encapsulates the 42 mm case, resembles the graphite finish applied to many exterior parts of the Infiniti FX Limited Edition and is just as beautifully-crafted. The galvanic black dial has a seconds hand provided with a distinct purple coating, the color symbolizing Infiniti’s brand identity and reflected everywhere - from the instruments of the Infiniti car to furnishings inside the Infiniti Centre. The numerals and indexes have been given a photo-luminescent finish to guarantee optimal night visibility. The dial is protected by an anti-reflection sapphire crystal.

The screw-down case-back of every Bell & Ross limited edition watch reveals the engraving of the Infiniti signature and an individual number. The timepiece is 100-meter water-resistant.

The heart of the timepiece is automatic mechanical movement - ETA 2982. Besides traditional hours, minutes and seconds, it animated the date function with quick correction.

The Bell & Ross watch is presented on heavy-duty synthetic black fabric or rubber strap.

Bell & Ross Type Demineur watch

The Bell & Ross Type Demineur watch epitomizes the purposeful form-inspired-by-function ethic that drives this focused brand. Well-known for producing watches which meet the most stringent professional demands, Bell & Ross scores yet again with the Type Demineur timepiece--a tool created for the split-second high pressure field of bomb disposal on dry land or beneath the water. However, this watch's handsome straightforward design, functionality, and comfort make it equally well-suited for any sporting requirement.

The heart of the Bell & Ross Type Demineur watch is an impressively precise 7-jewel Swiss ETA quartz movement; in addition to its great timekeeping performance, this reliable motor is immune to the effects of magnetic fields. Protecting this device is a brushed stainless steel case equipped with an ultra-hard sapphire crystal, and screw-down crown and caseback; together, these elements unite to provide water-resistance to 200 meters, a level suitable for diving usage.

Ideal for marking off any short term time interval, the rotating bezel is graduated in 5-minute sectors, and rotates only in the counterclockwise direction. Subtle texturing on the side of the bezel facilitates a firm grip and easy operation in the toughest conditions. Bell & Ross offers the Type Demineur watch with a finely crafted stainless steel bracelet, a flexible rubber strap, or a fabric strap which permits a great range of adjustment--ideal for fitting atop a bulky coat, or wetsuit. The Bell & Ross Type Demineur timepiece is available with a matte black, or white dial, both options being generously marked with luminous applications that ensure great legibility and instantaneous reading in any light condition.

Bell & Ross Function watch

The Bell & Ross Function watch is a technically brilliant sports timepiece with an unusually diverse range of functions. A characteristic example of Bell & Ross' dedication to creating consummate professional instruments, the Function watches grant their wearer superb functionality, and handsome good looks as result of a purposeful design.

The Bell & Ross Function watch features a high-tech quartz movement that offers both analog and digital displays. In addition to the primary analog time indication, the Function timepiece presents a secondary digital function whose multiple modes are operable via a simple twist of the crown. By doing this, the owner may adjust his or her Function watch to display the date, a chronograph, a second time zone, or an alarm, as well as a countdown timer, and selective time display modes in 12-hour or 24-hour formats. This superbly flexible multifunction movement is securely protected within a finely crafted yet durable 37mm stainless steel case, which is fully water resistant to a depth of 100 meters. Bell & Ross presents the Function timepieces in several distinctive styles, each of which has its own attractive highlights.

The Function Modern watches have a black dial with bold Arabic numerals around the periphery. The Function Index timepieces are characterized by applied stick-type indices, a decidedly elegant presentation; this variation is offered with a black dial, as well as alternatives in silver and grey. Visual cleanliness and legibility are both present in the Function Classic watch, with its sober Arabic numerals, and clearly marked subdivided minute scale. Each Bell & Ross Function timepiece is fitted with faceted, polished dauphine hands, and is available with a strap in rubber or leather, or a matching stainless steel bracelet with a triple-deployant butterfly clasp.

Bell & Ross BR 03-94 Phantom Chronograph

Perhaps "little" is not a fair adjective to be used when describing the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Phantom. Its stainless steel case, coated with the manufacturer's proprietary black carbon finish, is 42mm wide. While not a particularly large size, the case's square shape makes the watch feel a lot larger than what a round one with 42mm diameter would. At the same time, the BR 03 case size is not exclusively for those who love oversize watches. No client at the Matt Baily boutique has ever accused a BR 03 of being too big or too heavy on the wrist.

The all-black or Phantom style has become quite well known over the past two or three years. Bell & Ross, is one of the companies to pioneer the style. It has since been emulated by dozens of other manufacturers. The allure of the all-black design occurs in its stealth and oddity. Apparently not telling time at all, it takes many by surprise at first. Thanks to the size of the hands and hour markers, as well as the markers having a light relief over the dial, the time is easily legible during the day. The relief of the hour markers is due to copious amounts of paint that are applied carefully to the dial. The paint used is phosphorescent, which makes the Phantom look even more remarkable at night when the hands, numerals, and indexes emit their strong green glow.

The BR 03-94 Phantom will not be produced in limited numbers like its bigger, older brother, the 46mm BR 01-94 Phantom. What will probably be the case is that the yearly production numbers will be limited. The non-chronograph version released last year is limited to 500 pieces per year, so it would be safe to assume that the same will apply to the BR 03 Phantom chronograph. The downside of such low production for such a desirable watch is that it can be get somewhat difficult to get your hands on one. The exclusivity of owning one, however, assures that you will have a watch that is even less common than the others in the Bell & Ross collections.

As with all other BR 03-94s, the Phantom runs on an automatic winding ETA 2894-2 calibre and is made at Bell & Ross' manufacturing facilities in Switzerland. More models and specifications are available on the BR 03-94 collection page on MattBaily.ca. The BR 03-94 Phantom is indicative of Bell & Ross. It encompasses some of the company's most important design principles such as the legibility, strength, and the stealthy, all-black Phantom dial.

The BR Vintage collections are a welcome addition to the current line of Bell & Ross watches. They incorporate the unique, stylistic character of the brand with everything that works about the current Vintage collection and authentically capture the style of actual vintage timepieces. The flat bezel draws a subtle parallel between these and the BR-Instruments, but overall the BR Vintages are in a much more mainstream class of timepieces ideal for more regular or conservative use. Bell & Ross - Vintage BR 123 Carbon

The Vintage collection, inspired by the 1940s

Bell & Ross created its VINTAGE watches to pay homage to the military, in particular the pilots of the 1940s who were the first professionals to use the wristwatch as a tool to assist them in carrying out their missions. In keeping with this spirit, the new VINTAGE watches are simple, functional and timeless.

The Vintage Carbon, inspired by the cockpit

Bell & Ross has combined the authenticity of vintage watches with the legibility of cockpit instrument panels, all in a single watch. Each aspect of the watch is a testament to these design principles:

A vintage casing for a modern watch

• The round casing, traditional in form, evokes memories of the wristwatch of a bygone era, ergonomically adapted for the comfort required by today’s men.

• The anti-glare matte black carbon finish is inspired by the color of an airplane’s instrument panel, which uses contrast to facilitate the reading of the dials, eliminating any glare.

• The vintage curved glass is produced from sapphire crystals using techniques perfected over the years. The choice of this highly scratch resistant material is reminiscent of materials used in on- board instrumentation.

• The natural leather strap, like the watches of old, develops a rich patina over time.

A vintage dial with perfect legibility

The dial, with its classic design, optimizes legibility, taking its inspiration from an airplane’s dashboard clocks. The finish of the hands, index and the numerals is sand-colored, evoking the color of the dials in older watches.

Two complementary movements

An hours, minutes and seconds version (BR 123) and a chronograph (BR 126).

The rebirth of a classic

A magnificent example of Bell & Ross’ know-how, this new VINTAGE collection shows the coherence and cohesiveness of all of Bell & Ross’ watch collections. It perfectly illustrates the Bell & Ross philosophy of creating watches for professionals for whom legibility, functionality, accuracy and reliability are the priority. Bell & Ross Peugeot SR1 Watch integrates in futuristic Dashboard

Swiss luxury watch maker Bell & Ross is usually associated with aviation. Today Bell & Ross announced the new Peugeot SR1 concept watch. The Bell & Ross Peugeot SR1 is a wristwatch and also the dashboard clock of the new Peugeot SR1 concept car.

Drivers can take off their Bell & Ross Peugeot SR1 watch and attach it easily within the car's dashboard. On the futuristic dashboard of the Peugeot SR1, the Bell & Ross watch is the only analogue instrument, which does not really work for me as a concept. It looks forced. On the other hand the Geneva Motor Show 2010 is a fine place to advertise luxury watches.

The watch case of the Bell & Ross Peugeot SR1 is cut from a block of steel and holds a three-dimensional face. During production, the digital machining facility designs a raised setting on the face. A feat performed thanks to avant-garde machining techniques.

The monochromatic steel case and the leather wristband perfectly match the SR1’s interior upholstery.

The Peugeot SR1 Concept Car will be unveiled to the general public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. See also these hi-res photos. For more Watch News visit our Wrist Dreams site. Baselworld 2010 coverage has already started.

Bell & Ross Airborne Diamond Studded Models

The Bell & Ross watch that turned the most heads this year is definitely the limited edition BR-01 Airborne. Even if the skull and bones dial put a few people off at first, the story behind the design won many of them over. Two new diamond-set versions of the watch will be released in limited editions of 99 pieces each. 415 or 672, full-cut, hand-set, black and clear diamonds will adorn the cases of the two models. Their names are simply the BR 01 Airborne 415 and BR 01 Airborne 672.

The new Airborne models are inspired from the one-of-a-kind watch that Bell & Ross donated to the 2009 Only Watch auction. Both models offer the skull head dial fully set with 259 white diamonds. The Airborne 415 is set with black diamonds on the bezel only. Its total carat weight is 2.78. The more precious Airborne 672 has black diamonds adorning the entire face of the watch for 4.57 carats total diamond weight. Both models are fitted with a high quality shagreen ray leather and come with a secondary rubber BR strap and the tool set to interchange them.

Every diamond used on these Bell & Ross watches is a full-cut, round brilliant, and is set by hand. The great thing about black diamonds is that they retain the extremely high brilliance of the more traditional clear diamonds. Thanks to the brilliance, the stones come to life when in a well-lit location. The black Galuchat leather offers a similar reflective effect.

Chinese New Year holiday, stop writing blog for half a month, i will return to work on February 22.

New Watch - Bell & Ross Limited Edition Radar Watch

Bell & Ross recently published a new catalogue dedicated solely to their limited edition models of luxury watches. Everything from the Phantoms to the Grand Minuteurs are included and accompanied by a brief description of each watch and its features.Among the new models, my favorite is the BR-01 92 Radar.

The Bell & Ross BR-01 92 Radar is closely related to the BR-01 92 Carbon. The case is 46mm square and it runs on an automatic Swiss movement. The 500-watch limited edition Radar displays the time in a unique way. Three independent rotating discs are driven by the movement to indicate the hour, minutes, and seconds. The graduated markings for each time unit, are applied directly to the inside of the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and the time is marked by happily colored lines.

While it is obvious that the dynamic dial of this watch is directly influenced by what a radar screen looks like, I find that a character independent of stern military functionality is what the Radar watch offers. A high-end watch is, amongst other things, a fashion accessory. It should be enjoyable to wear and make the owner glad to have it. The minimalistic and fun look of the Bell & Ross BR-01 92 Radar will surely achieve this goal.

Bell & Ross BR Instrument Grand Minuteur

Bell & Ross has had great success in its 18 years as a company, but its biggest success has been with their Instrument watches launched in 2005. This year Bell & Ross introduced the BR Instrument Grand Minuteur, a 10-hour monopusher chronograph with flyback. The Grand Minuteur features one of a kind functions, an hour counter connected to a large counter, a timer that measures short times and an additional flyback function that launches a new measurement almost immediately. The dial was created with pilots in mind, with the large flyback chronograph display for easy readability. The Bell & Ross Instrument Grand Minuteur is a massive watch measuring in at 44mm x 50mm and is packed with enough functionality to match it’s presence. It’s water resistant to 100m, has a 10 day power reserve, rubber or alligator strap, an ultra-light glass bead blasted titanium case, virtually unscratchable coating, anti-reflection sapphire crystal and carbon fibre dials.

A tourbillon version of the Minuteur was also released this year. The Bell & Ross BR Instrument Minuteur Tourbillon has a very similar design to the Grand Minuteur, but the chronograph and the time display have been switched and the power reserve and small seconds hand have been moved so the tourbillon would fit on the dial. The case is the same extra large diameter but is made from satin-polished pink gold. Both watches are water resistant to 100 meters and are available on either an alligator or a rubber straps.

Bell & Ross BR 01 Tourbillon Phantom watch

Basel 2008 is the first chance the public had to view some exciting new releases from Bell & Ross. The new Phantom Tourbillon is a stunning watch that is the all black version of the BR 01 Tourbillon that was released by Bell & Ross in early 2007. The Phantom features an all black case and dial, with the most noticable feature being the silver tourbillon that sits above the 6 o'clock position.

The Phantom is a very limited production, with only 18 watches to be produced, far fewer than the 60 pieces made of the original BR 01 Tourbillon. The large 46mm case is made from a virtually scratch-proof DLC treated titanium. The dial is made from carbon fiber and the hands and indexes have been treated with a photo luminescent coating for easy readablility. In addition to the tournillon, the Phantom's complications include a regulator, a precision indicator and a power reserve indicator. It has a mechanical manual winding movement and is water proof to 100 meters.
